On February 14, 2018, Wang was shot and killed in a hallway by a mass shooter at Parkland High School in Florida. He was 15.
Wang had been holding the door open so his teachers and classmates could escape when he was shot. He was praised for his brave actions.
The teenager had dreams of one day attending the U.S. Military Academy. He was wearing his Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) uniform the day he was shot. According to NBC News, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point posthumously accepted Wang a week after the shooting.
The Golden Lantern Awards ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase on the Chinese American Museum’s website.
